5-HTP is a chemical created from an essential amino acid, which is then converted into serotonin. With our modern lifestyles, it can be hard to switch off after a long day and many of us find it difficult to wind down and get good quality sleep. Erratic eating habits may also contribute to low levels of serotonin. Serotonin is converted to melatonin, which is used by the body to create our sleep-wake cycle. When levels are low we find it hard to relax and drift off to sleep.
The 100 mg of 5-HTP per capsule may support serotonin levels, which combined with Vitamin B6 contributes to the reduction of tiredness and fatigue. Finally the inclusion of valerian, which has also been traditionally used to reduce symptoms of anxiety and promote quality of sleep. 5-HTP L-5-Hydroxytryptophan Complex Vegetable Capsules are suitable for vegans and are soya, dairy and gluten free.

This is a great quality supplement for anxious people like myself. I usually take it at night which helps me relax enough to fall asleep. Nice formula. I was initially just looking for 5-HTP and as a bonus I got B6 ingredients 10mg, magnesium (oxide and glycerinate) 50mg and a bit of valerian 100mg. I took a 100mg 5-HPT capsule with a cup of warm milk and Ayurvedic turmeric paste about an hour before bed along with a 1000mg glycine capsule (Life Extension). Have an early dinner and allow at least 3 hours before bed. A stroll on the beach at sunset, followed by a gratitude journal, meditation by Dr. Joe Dispenza and a gentle flow of Yin yoga. No bright lights after sunset. I guess a good night’s sleep is not found in a pill, but rather in lifestyle and body awareness. This quality Solgar formula is helping me transition as I reconnect with myself.

Solgar’s products are generally high quality and I suspect this one is too. However, when it comes to 5-HTP, I sometimes prefer to empty the capsule in my mouth for a faster effect through sublingual administration. Unfortunately, this formula contains a disgustingly sweet tasting additive that is very different from the neutral taste of raw 5-HTP, so I probably won’t be purchasing this formula again.

I can honestly say this supplement is what turned me into a morning person, gave me the ability to get a full night’s sleep, relax and wake up ready to start my day, needs about 5 days until you start to see a difference, but once you do…wow. highly recommended, reordering again, one of the best 5htp brands and combinations on the market.
