I started taking 1mg of melatonin about a year ago. After 1 month, I switched to Life Extension 500 mcg at bedtime and 300 mcg if I woke up at 2 am (every night) and was able to wean myself off to 300 mcg at bedtime. I stay asleep or can easily go back to sleep and on low dose I don’t feel groggy if I take a 2nd one at 2am.

You really don’t need a lot of melatonin to give you that extra sleepy mood to help you sleep better. I have found that between 300 and 500 mcg is perfect for me about an hour before I retire. I’ve tried 1mg, 3mg and 5mg capsules and got no added benefit from them, but everyone is different, so experiment with different strengths and see for yourself what works best.

was taking 5mg. melatonin gummies, then read that this is too high a dose to take physiologically. This 300 mcg dose is good. It (usually) helps me fall asleep faster and sleep deeper. It’s inexpensive, no added junk (like gummies and many other brands), and the capsules are nice and small. Will continue to buy.

ordered this product to see if it would help me improve my sleep. I have no problem falling asleep, but I wake up mostly tired. This melatonin product is unique as the dosage is only 0.3mg which was perfect for my DSPS. Sleep doctors now recommend only 0.3 to 0.5 mg for DSPS. I took it 5-6 hours before bedtime and gradually advanced my sleep schedule. such a dose did not cause me excessive drowsiness. Higher doses caused me excessive sleepiness and even delayed my sleep cycle even more as it stayed in my system longer.
