DHA’s fundamental importance for health is primarily as a building block for cell membrane systems. DHA is a primary structural component of the human brain and cerebral cortex.
How does it work?

DHA has been shown to support the brain in a number of ways. DHA helps regulate genes that manage brain development, maturation, and maintenance. It promotes nerve cell maturation and new nerve cell extensions. DHA improves synaptic membrane fluidity, often in combination with PS (phosphatidylserine), and increases brain production of the protective BDNF (brain-derived neurotrophic factor). It also upregulates glutathione peroxidase, along with other protective antioxidant enzymes, and is a source for docosanoids, which promote healthy tissue maintenance.

I wanted an omega 3 supplement with more DHA and found this one. An added ‘benefit’ is that there are no ‘fish burps’ with this product. Other brands often resulted in disgusting fishy-tasting burps for hours afterwards. No nasty aftertaste with these, either. I won’t buy any other kind now.

I bought this product thinking it was a natural calamari oil in triglyceride form based on the label on the website, but when I received the product the label is different and indicates that it is a SYNTHETIC ethyl ester (see attached photo).

Did you know that several studies have linked low levels of DHA to an increased risk of Alzheimer’s disease and dementia? Krill and calamari oils are a much purer source of omega-3s and they are packed with DHA. I take this supplement for brain health.

I have used this product for a few years now. Other fish oil supplements make you burp, but not this one. The active ingredient Calamarine is in a very expensive
supplement that a doctor sells, and I was very pleased to find it at a more reasonable price.
