NOW Foods – Saffron
Saffron is a well-known culinary herb that has been used for centuries but has only recently been scientifically studied. Recent research indicates that saffron can help to support a positive mood, a relaxed attitude, and may also promote restful sleep. Other studies suggest that saffron may help to support a balanced immune response and is a powerful free radical neutralizer. NOW uses only whole saffron stigma powder, not an extract. Natural color variation may occur in this product.

Microcrystalline Cellulose, Hypromellose (cellulose capsule), Stearic Acid (vegetable source) and Silicon Dioxide.
Not manufactured with yeast, wheat, gluten, soy, corn, milk, egg, fish, shellfish or tree nut ingredients. Produced in a GMP facility that processes other ingredients containing these allergens.
Recommended use:
Take 1 capsule twice daily with food.

I was using saffron to see if it would improve my blood pressure and to see if it would help lower my cholesterol. I think over time it would have helped, but my doctor insisted I start a statin and wouldn’t take no for an answer, so I’m not taking it anymore. I don’t think it was a waste.

Like any NOW Foods capsule product, you can smell the ingredients without having to open a capsule. If there are advantages, so much the better. I bought it more for some sort of aromatherapy (the saffron scent calms me down), since I can’t cook with saffron every day.

Saffron serves two purposes for me: a) It helps with mood (I had been taking it for years for this benefit) b) It also helps my heart medication (Cardizem) to be more effective. It works by helping the vascular vessels to be more dilated. The cost of saffron is much lower than it was (at least when buying from Amazon originally), but the quality has remained the same.

It is essential to take this supplement WITH food otherwise you may experience a strange taste of it in your stomach.
