What is Doctor’s Best Real Krill?
Doctor’s Best Real Krill supports healthy blood lipid levels, promotes joint health and enhances cell membrane structure. Krill are shrimp-like ocean creatures (crustaceans) that feed on algae, phytoplankton and zooplankton. Doctor’s Best Real Krill is sustainably harvested from Antarctic krill. Krill oil provides the omega-3 fatty acids, EPA and DHA, in phospholipids form. Krill oil gets its red color from astaxanthin, a potent membrane antioxidant.
How does it work?
Krill thrive in the frigid Antarctic seas due to their ample content of the long-chain omega-3 fatty acids DHA (Docosahexaenoic Acid) and EPA (Eicosapentaenoic Acid). By remaining fluid at temperatures way below freezing, these vital lipid nutrients assist krill to routinely survive, feed and reproduce. Krill’s vital lipids also aid in the maintenance of cell membranes. Membranes are thin, interconnecting molecular sheets that define the cell’s outer border and extend into the cell interior. The membrane’s foundation, or matrix, consists mostly of phospholipids with fatty acids attached. Numerous catalytic proteins are inserted into this matrix, and these must be free to move, which requires the matrix be semi-fluid. The omega-3 phospholipids of krill oil provide a fluidizing effect to the membrane matrix, which aids in cell function.
Why should I take Doctor’s Best Real Krill?
Maintaining healthy blood lipids is important for cardiovascular health and to help maintain memory with age. Krill oil has been shown to elevate HDL cholesterol and support cholesterol levels in the normal range, at dosages of 1 gram and higher per day. At 2 and 3 grams per day, krill oil also significantly lowered triglycerides. Krill oil at 1 gram per day and higher also promoted maintenance of healthy blood glucose.

Sustainably harvested soft gels that are easy to swallow. No fishy aftertaste, no gastric discomfort. I believe it has helped reduce my joint pain. Krill oil is also beneficial for improving heart health, fighting inflammation, and managing PMS. I prefer krill to fish oil. Doctor’s Best is a good quality product at a reasonable price.
