What is Betaine HCl Pepsin & Gentian Bitters?
Doctor’s Best Betaine HCl Pepsin & Gentian Bitters may support the stomach’s digestive capacity and optimizes digestive efficiency. Betaine HCl may support the stomach’s digestive capacity by decreasing gastric pH. Pepsin is an enzyme produced by the body to digest protein-containing foods in the stomach. Pepsin works in conjunction with stomach acid to support protein digestion. Gentian is an herb used to optimize the digestive capacity. Its bitter nature may help to stimulate the body’s production of digestive enzymes.
How does it work?
Betaine HCl is the HCl form of Betaine hydrochloride used as a nutrient to supplement the stomach’s own production of hydrochloric acid, or stomach acid. Stomach acid is normally produced by the parietal cells of the stomach and the function of stomach acid is to break down food that enters the stomach into smaller fragments and nutrient components. Betaine HCl has been shown to lower gastric pH which could potentially aid in the absorption of nutrients during a period of hypochlorhydria, or a lack of stomach acid. Gentian is an herb that is native to parts of Europe and Asia. The root has been used extensively by traditional herbalists to support digestive function due in large part to its bitter constituents. Various traditional texts classify gentian as a bitter tonic and digestive stimulant, due to its ability to promote the secretion of digestive enzymes. Gentian has been shown to stimulate gastric secretions, as well as promote choleretic activity.

suffered from low stomach acid which resulted in silent reflux and stomach acid leaking into my esophagus. My esophagus was RAW and sore. It felt like a cheese grater had been taken all over my throat!!! I had to act FAST to heal my body. HCL, Slippery Elm and Mastic Gum are doing wonders for my digestion. Betain HCL helped increase my stomach acids and it stopped my silent reflux. I have been taking these products for a month now and taking 2-3 days off. I also alternate the days I take each product. DO NOT TAKE Betaine HCL if you have high stomach acid!!! It’s for low stomach acid. My silent reflux is gone after 7 miserable months! I eat very clean, no more tomatoes, onions, garlic, acidic foods or canned/preserves etc.

As we age we lose our digestive enzymes and stomach acid. I have been taking digestive enzymes and Betaine for several years now and have a couple of different ones I rotate. I just recently bought this bc of good price. I really like it and it is one I will continue to use and grab first. I take several of Doctors Best supplements and have been happy with them.

have had stomach problems for over a year. I was diagnosed with eosinophilic esophagitis and a hiatal hernia. Also heartburn all the time. Light-colored stools and undigested food in the stool. Every meal was painful and my stomach felt extremely full for hours after every meal. My doctor prescribed me PPIs and pepcid AC, which made my digestive issues worse. I decided my doctor was leading me in the wrong direction. I started taking 1 with every meal and immediately felt an improvement, no more heartburn with every meal, no more waking up with heartburn! Stool also improved. Good product! Also improved energy much less tired.

Betaine helps boost muscle strength, power, growth has also been found to increase nitric oxide (NO) levels, as well as acting as an osmolyte to help regulate cellular fluid volume. I use it around workouts and it helps me get a good boost in the gym. I use 2 capsules twice a day, 2 before a workout and 2 after a workout. it’s a great product and I like Doctor’s Best products in general. the price is very good and you can basically create your own pre-workout at a fraction of the price with better quality as many pre-workout supplements are way under-dosed and rely heavily on caffeine

This product helps greatly in my digestion. My digestion was so good that i have bowel movement twice daily. When i run out of it, i can feel the difference. i will continue to take this product.
