Yamamoto Research Omega is an oil-based food supplement from the microalgae Schizochytrium sp. and EPA from fish oil, with vitamin E, suitable for adults.
The formula provides 200 mg of EPA and 100 mg DHA per daily dose. The EPA and DHA are unsaturated fatty acids of the omega-3 series and contribute to normal functioning of the heart (the beneficial effect is obtained with a daily intake of 250 mg of EPA and DHA).
In addition, DHA contributes to maintenance of normal brain function and the maintenance of normal vision (the beneficial effects are obtained with a daily intake of 250 mg of DHA).
Omega also contains vitamin E that helps to protect cells from oxidative stress.
Accustomed to combining omega 3 with fish oil, remember that there are other sources that contain abundantly as algal oil. Extracted from microalgae, algal oil is an important source of Omega 3, essential fatty acids that our body can not synthesize and must therefore be introduced with food. Together with algae it is a very common food in Japan and in the eastern countries that is beginning to spread also in the West.
The main beneficial characteristic of this oil lies in the high concentration of docosahexaenoic acid (DHA), an Omega 3 fat, rich in cold-water oceanic fish. Most of the DHA present in fish and in complex organisms comes from algae. DHA is one of the main components of the brain, in fact in the nerve and synaptosomal plasma membranes it represents about 35% of the total acidic portion. It is therefore essential for the correct neural development of the child, but also to counteract the aging and loss of brain function.
Many studies are now on omega 3 for the prevention of cardiovascular accidents and as an adjunct to the therapies, it has also emerged that supplementing DHA in the diet can help improve cognitive functions, combat neurological aging and protect from neurodegenerative processes. Then remember that the use of fish oil is often linked to phenomena of regurgitation that generates in many cases, so as to suspend sometimes the same intake, but algal oil is instead much more tolerated, does not cause phenomena of nausea and regurgitation.
