Astaxanthin is a carotenoid, a chemical found naturally in some plants and animals. A type of algae produces astaxanthin. This seaweed is used as a source of astaxanthin in supplements. Some types of seafood also contain astaxanthin. Astaxanthin gives salmon and lobster their reddish color and flamingo feathers their pink hue. This product was effective in minimizing cell damage and breakdown, I noticed noticeably healthier skin and hair and less grey! Used to take 4mg twice a day with another brand, so I decided to try this brand that gives 10mg of astaxanthin and found that it works better. It is a small, dark colored capsule where swallowing is not a problem. It has a subtle “fishy” or “seaweed” smell that doesn’t bother me too much. Sometimes I can burp shortly after taking it. It helps with my eye vision, I am less affected by floaters. It is said that it can also serve as a good sunscreen. I’m not too sure about this, but I will always use my external sunscreen before makeup.
