Each Natrol Pycnogenol capsule contains 50 mg of Pine Bark Extract, providing 85% water soluble proanthocyanidins.
Pycnogenol is a natural plant extract made from the bark of the Pinus Maritima and contains compounds that act as anti-oxidant free-radical scavengers.
Fruits, vegetables, and herbs contain large amounts of powerful and protective antioxidant nutrients. The largest group of these nutrients is known to scientists as polyphenolic flavonoids – the same type of antioxidants found in Pycnogenol.
Pycnogenol contains a rich and distinctive complex of more than 40 water-soluble antioxidants, including a variety of procyanidin compounds and natural acids.
Water solubility enhances the bioavailability of Pycnogenol, which is composed mainly of proanthocyanidins, an extremely potent subclass of antioxidant flavonoids. Pycnogenol also contains many other related natural acids as well as other polyphenols, including biologically active hydroxy-cinnamic acids, caffeic acid, ferulic acid, epicatechins, and taxifolin – still other types of flavonoids – make up the rest of Pycnogenol. While all of these flavonoids are found in a broad range of fruits, vegetables, and herbs, this single supplement, Pycnogenol, provides an optimal combination of them in a concentrated form.

Pycnogenol is an antioxidant that is extracted from the bark of French maritime pine trees that has been shown to be a powerful antioxidant which is particularly beneficial for cardiovascular health by promoting nitric oxide production. It has been the subject of hundreds of clinical trials and has been shown to be beneficial in reducing high blood pressure and cholesterol. After seeing several studies regarding the numerous health benefits of Pycnogenol consumption we decided to add it to my husband’s vitamin regimen. Since he began taking it we have seen a noticeable reduction in his blood pressure.

I’ve read that 50mg of Pycnogenol per day actually works as an anti-oxidant, and the fact that it’s mostly French maritime pine is already a plus for me. But I think that even if to help the problems of venous circulation, it is necessary to increase the dosage (so I read), I believe that it helps me on these problems. In any case it is a good product that I will buy again.
